World Cafe: A look inside the conversations at Asbury

Recently, the question was posed:  “Christianity is growing rapidly in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.  The church of Jesus Christ is becoming increasingly global, culturally diverse and multi-ethnic.  The ethnic composition of North America is also changing.  What implications does this have for a seminary like Asbury Theological Seminary?  What changes would you consider urgent?”
The question was [...]

Community on a Commuter Campus #2: (Re)Defining Community

This post is the second in a series we are running to track down community on a commuter campus. Read the introductory post “First Thoughts”. The Florida Maxie Dunnam campus is primarily a commuter campus. The Wilmore campus is majority residential students, but still maintains a strong core of students who commute.

A Sporting Chance

While Asbury is indeed a place where “head and heart go hand and hand,” you can also give your arms, legs, and other major muscle groups a good workout from time to time.  One of my personal favorite study-break activities is intramural sports.  Nothing gets out the aggression and frustration that builds up during a [...]

Let it snow, let it snow, let it….okay please stop.

When visitors tour our Kentucky campus, one question that comes up often goes something like this:  “So, do you guys get a lot of snow?”  And my gut reaction is usually “No, not really.”
Well……that is, usually, we don’t get that much snow.  You know, unless there happens to be a blizzard raging across the country. [...]

First Thoughts: Community on a Commuter Campus

I will be honest, when I think of a commuter campus, I do not first think of a place that has a strong community life. In my experience in undergraduate, commuter campuses were those places people drove in to, sat through class, and escaped as quick as possible. There was little effort to engage with others. I [...]

Why Seminary? Thoughts from Surfing Lessons

I was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I grew up with a beach only a short drive from my house. While Virginia Beach by no means has the best waves on the East Coast, we do have waves. More importantly, we get some pretty hairy storms blowing in which create excellent surf conditions. A [...]

Why I Chose Asbury Theological Seminary For PhD Work

Without a doubt, choosing a PhD program isn’t easy work. In fact, a whole lot goes into making such a choice. In my case, there were many variables that shaped my decision to accept the offer to study at Asbury Theological Seminary. To be sure, I had other offers. I was given an offer to [...]

Entering a New Community

In the life of a seminary student, August draws the curtain on the summer in order to prepare for another Fall semester. For a new student, however, the journey is just beginning. Many are leaving behind ministries, careers, friends, and family. The first year of seminary is the most difficult. There are several reasons for [...]

Doctor of Ministry Open House – Florida Campus

The world is moving faster than ever before. The explosion of social media in recent years is one example of the reality of rapid change. As a freshmen starting college in 2000, just nine years ago, the first place I went to answer a question or find more information was my universities library, and not for internet access. I would dig though scholarly journals and recent publications from professors. It is amazing the difference a few years can make. Today, if I want more information about anything, my first instinct is to google it. Ironically, my home page in college was the universities library portal. Now, its Google.com.

Welcome Home

The Asbury Admissions team purposefully set “Welcome Home” as our theme and focus. In all we do, our hope is to be a place you can relax with new friends. Our deepest desire is for students to follow their call. We do not pitch a product in a pressured sales environment. We want to sit down and have a conversation. Get to know you, hear your story, find out what God is doing in your life. We hope to provide you the information you need to make your decisions.

So, as you are exploring Asbury Seminary whether online or in-person, Welcome Home. Take a load off, relax, and know we are here to serve you as best we can.
